Clinical Supervision

Working in counselling, psychotherapy or any mental health setting can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be emotionally and cognitively demanding at times. Supporting others through trauma, loss, anxiety, relationship difficulties or distressing life experiences can naturally have an impact on us as practitioners. At different times we might feel emotionally overwhelmed or under-skilled; we may be ‘turned around’ with competing ethical dimensions or perhaps experience a feeling of ‘stuckness’ that mirrors a client you are working with. Having the right Clinical Supervision in place provides an important space to reflect, process and feel supported in the work that you do. Good Clinical Supervision can also help you grow into the ‘doing’ and ‘being’ of a competent and confident reflexive counsellor or therapist.

I provide individual and group Clinical Supervision either face-to-face in Wrexham, via telephone or online for trainee counsellors, qualified therapists and professionals working within mental health or other helping professions. I also work with people in roles where they may regularly hear difficult, traumatic or emotionally challenging client stories and need a safe, professional space for reflection and support.

I believe supervision should feel collaborative, supportive and grounded in trust. My aim is to create a space where you feel able to speak openly and honestly about your client work, professional challenges and your own wellbeing without fear of judgement. Whether you are at the beginning of your counselling training or have many years of experience behind you, supervision can offer valuable time to pause, reflect and develop both personally and professionally.

As a supervisor, I understand that no two practitioners are the same, and whatever you bring to supervision is welcomed. I work integratively from an embodied, relational and existential supervisory stance blending concepts from Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy supervision held within supervisory frameworks like the ‘Seven-Eyed Model’. Together, we can creatively explore your work in depth while ensuring that you continue to practise safely, ethically and with confidence.

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) describes supervision as a collaborative process that supports practitioners in providing a safe, ethical and competent service to clients. Supervision is recognised as an essential part of good counselling practice and an important way of maintaining professional resilience and emotional wellbeing.

Who I work with

I work with individuals and groups of trainee and qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, support workers, mental health professionals and others working in emotionally demanding roles. I understand that working closely with people who are struggling can sometimes feel isolating or emotionally heavy, particularly when dealing with complex or distressing client experiences. Having a regular supervision space can help you feel contained, supported and better able to manage the demands of your role. In this space we can also try out new approaches to understanding our clients more fully and ourselves in relation to them; tease apart novel ideas and insights and explore different perspectives in service to our clients and our client work.

My approach to Clinical Supervision is warm, reflective, reflexive and relational, with a little sprinkle of humour. I value creating a professional relationship where you feel safe enough to explore difficulties honestly while also recognising your strengths, growth and development as a practitioner. Supervision is not simply a professional mandate about accountability; it is also about support, learning, growth and self-awareness.

I offer in-person group and individual Clinical Supervision sessions in Wrexham as well as telephone and online supervision sessions for those based elsewhere in the UK. Sessions are tailored to your individual or group needs, level of experience and professional setting.

If you are looking for Clinical Supervision in Wrexham, telephone or online supervision for counsellors, therapists or helping professionals, please feel free to get in touch. I would be happy to have an initial conversation and discuss how I may be able to support you and your practice.
