How to survive the wedding season, by Kim a counsellor in Wrexham.

Most of us enjoy going to weddings and parties…the dressing up and the beautiful locations.  However for some of us the evening “do” can be a great source of anxiety as we may feel that there is an expectation that we shall have to dance.  Perhaps we love dancing and don’t feel we are very good at it and so avoid the dance floor?  Perhaps we sit by and watch others to work out if we could fit in on the dance floor without looking too ridiculous?  One lesson I have learnt from observing others has been beautifully presented by Martha Graham: “Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are great because of their passion”.  Remember Lisa Riley on Strictly Come Dancing…. she was full of passion and enthusiasm and looked great!  Remember Dave the Hairy Biker also on Strictly…. he too looked great despite his lack of technique.  Most of all, they were both loving the experience.  So move out of the corner and get dancing despite your anxiety and enjoy it!
