Screen time (TV, computer games etc) combined with inactivity is increasing children’s levels of anxiety and reducing their feelings of wellbeing, according to a Public Health England briefing paper.  A link has been found between higher amounts of screen time leading to lower  levels of self-esteem and wellbeing and increasing anxiety and depression.  Public Health England go on to suggest that children doing more physical activity a day experience lower levels of worry, anxiety and depression, concentrate better in school and enjoy good relationships with their class mates.  One hour of activity a day is their recommendation.  If this is how screen time affects our children, maybe it also affects adults in similar ways?  For help with anxiety, depression or low-self esteem, book an appointment with Kim.
