Kim, a Wrexham Counsellor discusses why learning to forgive can improve your health.

Do you find it hard to forgive people who have wronged you?  Are you unable to let go of the hurt you have suffered? Probably most of us have been hurt by someone whether it’s a partner, family member, friend or perhaps as a victim of crime.   Being able to move on from these negative feelings and even forgiving the perpetrator is not only good for our mental health but also our physical health.  Professor Toussaint (Luther College, Iowa) has been researching the link between health and forgiveness and has found that those who are able to forgive have higher functioning cardiovascular, hormonal and immune systems.  He also discovered that those who forgive only if the other person apologises or makes amends live shorter lives than those who forgave without any conditions.  If there are issues around a hurt you have caused or suffered, talking to a counsellor may help you to move forward to forgive yourself and/or others.  Contact Kim without obligation to discuss how she can help.
